Derisive
"Complicated"
By Avril Lavigne
Chill out, what you yellin' for?
Lay back, it's all been done before
And if, you could only let it be
You will see
I like, you the way you are
When we're drivin' in your car
And you're, talkin' to me one on one
But you become
Somebody else
'Round everyone else
Your watchin' your back
Like you can't relax
You tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me
Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make things so complicated?
I see the way you're actin' like you're somebody else
Gets me frustrated
Life's like this you
You fall and you crawl and you break
And you take what you get, and you turn it into
Honestly, you promised me
I'm never gonna find you fake it
No no no
You come over unannounced
Dressed up, like you're somethin' else
Where you are ain't where it's at you see
You're makin' me
Laugh out, when you strike a pose
Take off, all your preppy clothes
You know, you're not foolin' anyone
When you become
Somebody else
'Round everyone else
Your watchin' your back
Like you can't relax
You tryin' to be cool
You look like a fool to me
Tell me
Avril clearly articulates derision in this excerpt. This song expresses the complications of being in a capricious relationship. Directed towards the other person in the relationship, the words "dressed up, like you're somethin' else" mocks for the high heir evidently being put on. The proclamation that she's laughing at him when he "strikes a pose" fulfills its purpose in further degradation as does the adjective that describes the clothes he is wearing: "preppy." To sum up the meaning of derisive, Lavigne remarks that he is not "foolin' anyone." Brimming with ridicule, Complicated well articulates her feeling of cynicism and betrayal; moreover, it comes across just as the lyricist intended- straight up embarrassing!

It's Only Life
By: Kate Voegele
Tears are forming in your eyes,
a storm is warning in the skies,
the end of the world it seems,
you bend down and you fall on your knees, well get back on your feet, yeah, don't look away, don't run away, baby it's only life, don't lose your faith, don't run away, it's only life.
you were always playing hard,
never could let down your guard,
you can't win, if you never give in,
to that voice within, saying pick up your chin,
baby let go of it , yeah, don't look away, don't run away ,
baby, it's only life. don't lose your faith, don't run away,
baby it's only life.(repeat)
take your hesitance, and your self defense,
leave them behind, it's only life, don't be so afraid of facing every day,
just take your time, it's only life,
i'll be your stepping stone, don't be so alone, just hold on tight,it's only life,
oh..don't look away, don't run away,
baby it's only life, don't lose your faith, don't run away, baby, it's only life (repeat), it's only life, it's only life,
don't look away...
I chose It's Only Life by Kate Voegele because I thought that it illustrated inspiration. It says don't look away, don't run away, don't lose your faith, don't be afraid of facing everyday and it's only life. It's saying that even if life gets hard you shouldn't give up no matter what. The song says to keep your chin up, to get back on your feet, and to just take your time meaning that when life gets hard always have a good attitude and face whatever is coming. I think it's inspirational because it tells you to keep on going no matter what. Yes, life may be hard at times but never give up.
Lyrical analysis needs to be far more sophisticated to justify yoru argument of tone. Better attention to details...
Callous
I'm Gone, I'm Going - Lesley Roy
(Oh!)
So sick of hearing your words
All I can hear you say
Is how you want me to live
My life a different way.
I'm gonna pack all my things,
I'm gonna do it just watch me, watch me.
I'm like a rat in a cage
I'm about to lose it all
And I ain't gonna give up
Until I'm standing tall
I'm gonna throw it on the edge
Just get it over with
Watch me, watch me
'Cause life is way too short
And I can't wait no more
Here I go
I'm gone, I'm going
I'm so over you, and I don't care And I won't go back
Cause I know if I do, I won't make it
Forgive me, I can't take it anymore
So sick of falling apart and crawling back again
So sick of playing the games that I can never win
I really had it, just so so sick of it
Watch me, just watch me
'Cause life is way too short
And I can't wait anymore
Here I go
I'm gone, I'm going
I'm so over you, and I don't care
And I won't go back
'Cause I know if I do, I won't make it
Forgive me, I can't take it anymore
I won't look back
I won't look back no more
(Hey) (Hey) (Hey)
So here I go,
I'm gone, I'm going
I'm so over you, and I don't care
And I won't go back
'Cause I know if I do, I won't make it
Forgive me, I can't take it anymore
"I'm Gone, I'm Going," by Lesley Roy, demonstrates a callous tone. The whole song is directed toward a man who the artist seemed to have fell out of love with. Throughout the song, Lesley Roy's tone is insensitive, uncaring, and hard toward this man. The chorus, "Here I go, I'm gone, I'm going, I'm so over you and I don't care, and I won't go back, 'cause I know if I do I won't make it, forgive me I can't take it anymore," is extremely indifferent, along with the third verse: "So sick of falling apart and crawling back again, so sick of playing the games that I can never win, I really had it just so so sick of it, watch me, watch me." She is right by saying "life is way too short," and by truly listening to these harsh words and enveloping yourself in the song's upbeat tune, you can really feel her emotions at the time and realize that this is practically as callous as a song could get.
Here I go
I'm gone, I'm going
I'm so over you, and I don't care
She is hard and insensitive toward this man who she has fallen out of love with, and she is certainly uncaring towards him. And I won't go back
Cause I know if I do, I won't make it
Forgive me, I can't take it anymore
She is being hard and toward her ex and indifferent toward the fact that she will not be going back to him anymore in the near future.
